One of the wonderful aspects of building software is that there are few limits to your imagination. You can create almost anything.

The only limit that I regularly encounter is capital budget. There is only so much hardware that anyone can afford to buy. That limited hardware in turn limits the capabilities of the software, or at least its performance.

One of the many reasons why Amazon Web Services are winning business from traditional IT if that they assume all of the capital costs. Capital costs which kept more than a few best practices out of common practise.
